Kindergarten

"I know without a doubt that the careful thought behind every detail of the kindergarten life has a positive impact on her. It weaves its magic around her and brings out the best in her, allowing her to flourish and bloom." - Parent

 Academic year 2011- 2012.

The Kindergarten is for children from rising 3 to 7 years old. It is open from 9am to 12.30pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  A further morning is available subject to demand. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there is the option of extending the session to 3.00pm. Attendance is negotiable according to the age of the child, the needs of the parents and availability of places

The kindergarten allows young children to learn through imitation and imagination and to develop their potential within a secure, calm, happy environment. The clear rhythm of the morning supports the child's learning of new skills and provides a sense of security.

The activities of the kindergarten are both practical and artistic and with an emphasis upon creative play to enhance emotional, social and physical development and problem solving abilities.  Weekly activities are painting wet on wet, baking, modelling, and drawing. Snacks such as soup and biscuits are made during the morning with the children.  The kindergarten goes outside for a walk every morning. There are many opportunities to develop listening, speaking and phonic awareness as well as basic numeracy skills, in accordance with the EYFS. However we have applied for exemption from those parts of the EYFs that clash with Waldorf educational philosophy.

Afternoon care is from 12.30pm to 3pm. There is a short rest time for the younger children who often sleep and older children then do some gardening or craft activity or play quietly.

The Mulberry Tree children are guided by a Steiner Waldorf trained Teacher and Assistant. We bring to the children stories, songs and an environment carefully selected and chosen to accommodate each child within a changing year. As each child grows and changes the curriculum moves and breathes too, supporting his/her development.

We participate in the Nursery Education Grant Scheme. We are registered with the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship and are a registered charity. Our charity number is 1099561. We are fully OFSTED inspected and police checked.
