Open Day at the Mulberry Tree (Steiner) Kindergarten and Lower School initiative
Saturday 19th March: 10am – 2pm
Based in Cromhall, South Gloucestershire, the Mulberry Tree Kindergarten runs a thriving Early Years group
(ages 3 to 6) and a Parent & Toddler Group, these aim to provide children and their families with an
unhurried approach to early childhood.
Due to the success of this activity and to current demand it is expanding. It will be opening a Class 1 next
September for children rising 7. This is an exciting new venture and we hope it will lead to becoming a Free
School so as to be able to provide places for all those in the area who are looking for a school with a
Steiner Curriculum and ethos.
There are currently a few places left in the new class, as well as for younger children, so come and see what
we do, enjoy some craft activities, storytelling and delicious snacks. There will be a short talk about Steiner
education and our intention to become a Free School at 11.30.
Steiner Education is the biggest independent school movement worldwide with over a 1000 schools spread through
all continents. Many of these are part of the state funded education in their country.
This educational approach advocates a playful start to learning with many practical hands-on experiences and
progresses slowly but surely into learning to write, read and work with numbers, also languages, music, crafts
etc. A slower start is a sure one, it has been shown time and again that children benefit in the strength and
depth of their learning by taking their time in the early years and that by the time they are 11 they have
covered the same ground as the national curriculum and much more. They become enthusiastic learners, creative
and flexible thinkers and have a broad base to their learning. Steiner Schools have a good record of pupils
going on to University and entering all walks of life.
